Rotterdam is second biggest city in Netherlands after Amsterdam. It is one the most important harbor city of Netherlands and Europe. Located in South Holland, it is one of the biggest city in Netherland alongside Amsterdam, and also the largest seaport in Netherlands and in Europe. Here are some tips for you when traveling the city of Rotterdam.
- STAY NEAR TRAIN STATION
Every time I give tips on traveling to a city in Europe, I always recommend to stay at a hotel located near the train station. There are at least two considerations namely; First, cost considerations, because tourist attractions in Europe are mostly accessed by train lines with relatively affordable costs. Whereas using a taxi in Europe is quite expensive unless you really have enough budget. Second, the consideration of access, because the location of the train station (especially the central station) is located in the city center, it is automatically easier and faster to reach various tourist attractions.

2. ENJOY ROTTERDAM CENTRAAL STATION
One of Rotterdam landmark that I suggest you to visit is Rotterdam Centraal Station, the main train station of the city Rotterdam in South Holland, Netherlands. If you travel to Rotterdam by train, you will automatically visit this beautiful building. What makes it unique is the shape of the roof that is pointed to the upper right side. The interior is also very roomy so it feels very comfortable when waiting for the train schedule.

3. ENJOY THE BEUATY OF ROTTERDAM STADHUIS (ROTTERDAM TOWN HALL)
The town hall on Rotterdam’s Coolsingel was built between 1914 and 1920 to a design by Henri Evers. It is one of the few buildings in the center of Rotterdam that survived the bombing of May 14, 1940 (nl.wikipedia.org)

How to get there:
You could reach Rotterdam Stadhuis by train from Rotterdam central station and arriving at Stadhuis Station. The train will depart every 7 minutes. The journey takes approximately 5 minutes. Because the distance is very close, actually you could get there by walk that takes time approximately 10 minutes.

4. EXPLORE MARKTHAL ROTTERDAM
Did you ever heard about a building in Rotterdam with unique shapes and colorful interior, as home for residential and offices with shopping hall underneath for restaurants, food shops and supermarket. Yeah, it is Markthal Rotterdam. Located at Binnenrotte, next to Blaak Station, this unique building is one of the famous landmarks of Rotterdam. If you have a chance to travel Rotterdam, I suggest visiting this building. You can buy some some food there either as your personal consumption or as gifts for your family and friends such as chocolate, nuts and various foods made from chocolate and nuts. Then don’t forget to take photo of the building from inside and outside.

How to get there:
You can reach the Markthal by Sprinter (Sprinter in a smaller train than intercity train which stops at every small station in Rotterdam). Since the distance from central station to Markthal is close, it needs just seven minutes to the nearest station, Rotterdam Blaak Station. From Rotterdam Blaak, you just need to walk about three minutes to get the Markthal Hall. It could also reach by walk which need just less than 20 minutes to reach the Markthal.
If you stay at Holiday Inn Hotel, Hilton Hotel or Grand Hotel Rotterdam, I think its better to get the Markthal by walk because it just need about 10 minutes from the hotel. The advantage of getting the Markthal by walk, you can cross some beautiful buildings and shopping areas.
Because the route to the Markthal crosses the Rotterdam Stadhuis, I suggest you to visit the Markthal after visiting the Stadhuis. The distance from Rotterdam Stadhuis to the markthal is around 800 meters which takes about 10 minutes by walk.

5. ENJOY ERASMUS BRIDGE AND SURROUNDING
Erasmusbrug (English: “Erasmus Bridge”) is a combined cable-stayed and bascule bridge completed in 1996 crossing the Nieuwe Maas in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, second largest in the Netherlands. The bridge was named in 1992 after Desiderius Erasmus, a prominent Christian Renaissance humanist also known as Erasmus of Rotterdam. The Erasmus Bridge is Rotterdam’s most important landmark and is even part of the city’s official logo (en.wikipedia.org).

Near the Erasmus Bridge there is a monument, the De Boeg National Maritime Trader Monument. Design for the National Merchant Navy Monument in 1953 De Boeg is a command of war in Rotterdam. It commemorates 3,500 people aboard a Dutch merchant ship who lost his life in World War II. Fred Carasso Monument was inaugurated on April 10, 1957 by Princess Margriet in the corner of Boompjes and Leuvehaven. The 46 meter high aluminum construction symbolizes the arc in a concrete wave. Then, on July 15, 1965, a group of 8 meters high bronze statues was added to the monument: a helmsman, three sailors and a strong man. Next to it is the text: “They keep going” (sources: nl.wikipedia. org)

How to get there:
Because the location of the Erasmus Bridge is close to Markthal, I suggest visiting it after visiting the Markthal. You just need about fourteen minutes to arrive at de Boeg (Monument) near the Erasmus Bridge from where you can enjoy the beauty of the Erasmus bridge and the scenery around it.

thus, hopefully helpful.
