TRAVEL TIPS TO BRUSSELS FOR FIRST TIMER

Brussels is the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium and the capital of the European Union (EU). It is also the most populous city in Belgium with population more than one million people. Brussels, one of bilingual city with some of their citizen are speaking in French and Dutch, is very famous for its historical cultural heritage, among others are Grand Place, Brussels Town Hall, Brussels City Museum, Manneken Pis and so forth.

In this occasion, i will share you tips for traveling to Brussels especially for short or a day visit.

  1. STAY AT HOTEL NEAR CENTRAL STATION

For a day visit in Brussels, it is important to stay at the hotel near Central Train Station due to limited of time. By staying near the station, you can save your time and optimize it in exploring the city. The other reason is, some of the tourist attractions in Brussels are located near the central station such as Grand Place, Town Hall, Brussel City Museum, Manekken Pis, Chocolate Shop, Souvenir Shop, Saint-Hubert Royal Gallery and some city parks.

There are several hotel located near the station such as Novotel Brussels off Grand Place, Hotel Ibis Brussel Grand Place, Hotel NH Brussels Carrefour de l’Europe and so forth. For detail, I suggest using Google Map where you can see the location of the hotel and its distance from Central Station.

2. EXPLORE THE GRAND PLACE

Grand Place is a central square of Brussels with some historical buildings such Town Hall and Brussel City Museum. The beautiful Square which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a famous tourist destination in Brussels. Therefore, it is always visited by many people every day.

How To get there:

Its location from Brussels Central Station is very close approximately 350 meters and you just need to walk less than 5 minutes. I Suggest using google maps as direction pointer. In term you have difficulties of using Google map, don’t worry, you just ask the hotel staff or people on the street near Brussels Central Station about the direction to get it. All people know it since it is very famous.

3. VISIT MANNEKEN PIS

Manneken Pis or Little Pissing Man is a small bronze statue of naked little boy who is urinating into a fountain’s basin. This little statue is also a landmark of Brussels City which attracts many people from many countries.

How To get there:

It is located not far from Brussels Central Station approximately 650 meters or about 8 minutes walk. From Grand place it is very close approximately 300 meters or just 4 minutes walk. You just go out from the Grand Place Square through exit near Hard Rock Coffee.

4. VISIT SAINT-HUBERT ROYAL GALLERY

Saint-Hubert Royal Gallery is a glass-lined shopping arcades in Brussels designed and built by architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaer. It is home for many luxury shops, elegant cafes and restaurants. When you come in this beautiful shopping arcades, first impression you feel is a luxury with golden color.

How to get there:

It is easy to discover since its location near the Brussels Central Station approximately 400 meters or about 4 minutes walk. From Grand Place, it is about 200 meter or 2 minutes walk.

5. SHOP CHOCOLATES AND SOUVENIRS

Belgium is very famous of its high quality chocolates in the world. Therefore, It is unfortunate if you do not buy various types of chocolate in Brussels either for personal consumption or as a gift for family and friends. There are many chocolate shops in Brussels, especially around the Grand Place, Manneken Pis and Saint-Hubert Royal Gallery. Therefore, after being satisfied to see the beauty of the Grand Place, Manneken Pis and Saint-Hubert Royal Gallery, you can buy some chocolate before returning to Brussels Central Station or to your hotel.

6. VISIT PLACE ROYALE BRUSSELS

The Place Royale (French; “Royal Square”) or Koningsplein (Dutch; “King’s Square”) is a historic neoclassical square in the Royal Quarter of BrusselsBelgium. Built between 1775 and 1782 as part of an urban project including Brussels’ Park, it is rectangular and symmetrical in shape and is flanked by some of the main museums in the city (en.wikipedia.org).

How to get there:

From Brussels Central Station, you take the route opposite the route to Grand Place. If the route to Grand Place goes down, the route to Royal Place goes uphill. The distance is about 600 meters and the journey by walk will take time approximately 9 minutes.

7. EXPLORE THE STREET AND CITY PARK

Brussels has some beautiful streets and parks. while You are in Brussels, do not forget to explore them. You do not need to go far to enjoy the roads with beautiful buildings and enjoy the gardens with beautiful statues and plants in it. By walking around the Brussels Central Station with a radius of only a few hundred meters, you can already enjoy the beauty of the streets and parks of Brussels.
