TRAVEL TIPS TO JAPAN – Kyoto

Kyoto is the capital city of Kyoto prefecture in Japan. it is considered as cultural capital of Japan. This city is home for many cultural heritages, and therefore it become one of the most popular tourist destination in Japan along with Tokyo and Osaka. Foreign tourist from all over the world usually will traveling to this city and Osaka after traveling to Tokyo.

How to get there:

From Tokyo You could travel to Kyoto by Train. There are several alternative train you can choose, but I suggest taking the Shinkansen train for convenience and efficient time on the trip. Especially when you travel with child and elderly. it takes about 2,5 hours to arrive in Kyoto. Ticket cost is about 13.000 yen ( about 119 dollar). it is expensive enough but I think its logic because of the advantages that passenger get by taking this train.

  • What types of Shinkansen ticket to buy;

There are two types Shinkansen ticket; Reserved Seat Ticket, it gives you a definite seat but the price is more expensive, and Non Reserved Seat Ticket with un certain seat but the price is cheaper.

If you travel with child or elderly, I suggest buying the reserved seat ticket, but if without child or elderly, buying non reserved ticket is better for cost reason, but must depart from the right station.

  • What station to take Shinkansen Train;

If you from Tokyo you can take Shinkansen from two station; Tokyo Station and Shinagawa Station. If you buy non reserved seat ticket, I suggest you taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station, because the starting point of Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kansai destination (Kyoto and Osaka), is from Tokyo station, then through Shinagawa station. If you take it from Shinagawa Station, your chances to get a seat become smaller.

Where to stay:

As a tourist destination, Kyoto offers abundant accomadations to stay from budget hotel/hostel to luxurious one. it depends on your financial budget. But regardless of the class of the hotel you choose, I suggest taking hotel near the Kyoto station. There are some hotels right across the street in front of station exit. I thinks you can choose one of them. it is very close from the station.

At least there are two reason why you should take hotel near the station;

First, the ease of access of the hotel. Even though you arrive late at night, you still feel comfortable going to the hotel from the station.

Second, the ease of access of the some tourist attraction since most of the tourist attractions in Kyoto are accessed from the Kyoto station.

Place to visit:

There are several interesting places or tourist attractions to visit in Kyoto such as Kyoto Tower, Gion, Bamboo Forest, Fusimi Inari, Yasaka Shrine, Kyoto Imperial Palace, etc. We recommend at least three places to see when you visit Kyoto; Kyoto Tower, Sagano Bamboo Forest dan Fusimi Inari Thaisa.
