If you have plan to visit some cities in Europe by train which need transit in Zurich Station (more than 2 hours), here are some tips to explore Zurich:
- Store Your Luggages
If you want to go out the station to explore some places in Zurich but you have some luggages which is big or heavy enough to carry with you, don’t worry, you could store them in Luggage storage in the Station. The amount of fees you must pay is depend on the size of the locker and the length of time you take.
The process is easy, you just insert your Visa or master card into the machine, choose the size of the locker and the length of time. Then you are asked to enter your card PIN numbers and then you will see a piece of paper came out of the machine and one locker is opened. Store you luggages and go!
Don’t forget to save the piece of the paper you take from the machine because it is needed to open the locker when you want to take your luggages back.
2. Explore the Zurich Station
Zurich station has three floor and I think it’s big enough to explore. You could enjoy the beauty of the architectures, buy some meals, drinks and of course souvenir at the gift shops on the lower floor.
3. Explore Brahnhofstrasse
Brahnhofstrasse is one of the main street in Zurich where some luxury store located such as H&M, Zara, Channel, Prada, Salvatore, Ferragmo, Calvin Klein, Rolex, Masimodutty, etc. If you are fan of the luxury brand above, it is the right place to explore. In some season such as winter, the stores offer great discount that make the price affordable for you. Besides shopping, you can also enjoy the beautiful scene of the street with comfortable track for walking. If you have enough time, you can eat macaroni by sitting on the bench alongside the street. While eating the macaroni, we can see trams passing by. The route to stroll the street is start from near train station. At the end from the street, you can direct go to Grossmunster.
4. Enjoy beautifull scene in Grossmunster surrounding
Grossmunster is a Gothic Church in Zurich. It is popular among tourist due to its long history and beautiful city view from its roof top. To enjoy scene of Zurich from it’s roof top, you must buy ticket at ground floor near entrance door. From outside the church you can sit and enjoy the view of river with the old brige. On the left side of the church, there is a gift shop where you can buy stuff as gift for your family or friends. You don’t need to bargain because the price is fix, but more expensive compare than other cities in Europe for the same stuff.
If you feel hungry after exploring Zurich and need some meals before leaving Zurich, You could have meal in Mc Donald Restaurant in front of the Zurich Station. For you who want to eat rice, there is a Chinese restaurant offers dish with rice in the station (lower floor). After having meal, don’t forget to take your luggage back and then wait for your train in a waiting room where you can monitor your train schedule on the screen.
Note:
While exploring Zurich, do not forget to always look at the clock and do not be too tight with the train schedule when returning to the station because trains in Europe are always on time.
